This Victorian-Queen Anne style house was one of the earliest brick homes in the city.

In December 1998 the Walker’s purchased the Harnisch House from the estate of Daryl Engle. The Walkers wanted to renovate and live in the house as their permanent residence.

As the house was nearing completion in August of 1999 it was mostly destroyed by arson fire. The fire left the house gutted on the interior, destroyed the roof, wood windows and partially destroyed the brick exterior. The Walkers had the structure studied by a local engineer and found it to be structurally stable. Upon settlement with their insurance company the Walkers began to rebuild.

After the fire the Walkers reevaluated the house. They expressed a desire to have a master suite added to the first floor rear of the house along with a garage at the rear of the site. The solution was to have the master suite match that of the first floor exterior with its roof serving as a porch for the second floor rooms above. The garage is designed to give a feel of a carriage house. It has the same color of brick and roof to match the existing house. All the interior and exterior features and finishes had to be replaced with the exception of the brick exterior. The brick was cleaned and repaired. The original front doors were salvaged from the fire and reworked and placed in their original location. Construction was complete and the Walkers moved in on December 13, 2001.
